How to Control How Often Flathive Emails You
Your inbox, your rules. Set notifications to match the way you actually use Flathive — whether that is staying on top of every message or checking in at your own pace.
Flathive sends email notifications to keep you informed when things happen on your account — new messages, and reminders about listings you have started but not published.
Message notifications always reach you — a missed enquiry can cost you a flatmate or a room — but you choose whether they arrive straight away or as one email a day. Everything else you can turn off.
Where to find notification settings
- 1Log in to your Flathive account
- 2Click your profile photo or name in the top-right corner
- 3Select Email alert settings from the menu
- 4Adjust your preferences and click Update Preferences
Changes take effect immediately. Unsubscribing from one of our emails turns off reminders and updates, but never message notifications — you'll always hear when someone messages you.
The two notification settings
Each setting controls a different type of email, so you can mix and match — for example, messages once a day and no reminders at all.
Messages
Default: ImmediatelyHow you hear about new messages from other members. This one can't be switched off, so you never miss an enquiry.
Immediately
An email within about a minute of each new message (or a push notification if you use the Flathive app).
Best for: Anyone actively looking for a room or a flatmate
Once a day
One summary email each morning if you have unread messages. Nothing is sent on days you have already read everything.
Best for: People who check Flathive daily and prefer fewer emails
Communication
Default: AutomaticEverything else: reminders to finish a draft listing, listing updates, tips and other account notices.
Automatic
We send these only when they are useful — for example, a reminder about a listing you started but did not publish.
Best for: Most people
Never
No reminders or updates. You will still get message notifications and important account emails (like password resets).
Best for: People who only want to hear about messages
How the notification system works
- •On Immediately, each new message is emailed within about a minute — even if you open the chat in the meantime, so a notification is never lost
- •You are never emailed twice about the same message
- •If you use the Flathive app, you get a push notification on your phone instead of the email
- •On Once a day, one summary email goes out each morning if anything is still unread
Not getting message emails? Check your spam or promotions folder and add hello@flathive.com.au to your contacts. If you use the app, make sure notifications for Flathive are turned on in your phone's settings.
